What Is Movember?
Movember is a global, month-long fundraiser each November where people grow moustaches (or move for Movember) to spark conversations and raise money for men’s health. What began as a small grassroots effort in Australia has since grown into a worldwide movement supporting prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention programs.
Why Movember Matters
Men often delay checkups and struggle to talk about health—especially mental health. Movember uses humour and visible moustaches to make tough topics easier to raise. Funds support screening, early detection, treatment research, and community programs. If you’re looking to make daily choices that support prostate well-being, see our guide on foods for prostate health.
How to Get Involved
- Grow: Shave down on Nov 1 and grow a moustache. Share your progress and your donation link.
- Move: Run, walk, cycle, or set a personal activity goal—solo or with a team.
- Host: Organize a bake sale, coffee morning, or “Mo Party” and ask for a small donation at the door.
- Donate: Support a friend, team, or give directly to the cause.

Mental Health: Start the Conversation
A big part of Movember is normalizing open, honest talk about mood, stress, and loneliness. Checking in with a friend can be powerful, and so can small daily habits. Regular physical activity is one of the most reliable mood boosters—learn more in Exercise Helps You Beat Depression.
Events, Challenges & Friendly Competition
Around the world, teams run step challenges, gym throw-downs, trivia nights, and end-of-month gala parties with awards for the most impressive (and sometimes the most questionable) moustaches. Keep it fun, inclusive, and focused on the goal: raising awareness and funds for men’s health.
Where the Money Goes
Donations fund research and on-the-ground programs in prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s mental health. To see current initiatives, impact reports, or to register your own campaign, visit the official Movember Foundation website: movember.com.
Quick Tips for a Healthier November (and Beyond)
- Book your routine checkups and talk to your clinician about family history and screening.
- Prioritize sleep, fiber-rich foods, and plant-forward meals to support overall and prostate health.
- Move most days—walks, strength training, or team sports all count.
- Limit alcohol and avoid tobacco; both can affect cardiovascular and sexual health.
However you take part—growing, moving, hosting, or donating—Movember is a fun, community-driven way to champion serious issues and help the men in our lives live longer, healthier, and happier.
